Fibromyalgia

The written statement on Fibromyalgia, filed by me, as a Euro-deputy, in September this year, has met the required number of signatures to be acquired by the European Parliament as an official position. The development of a community strategy on Fibromyalgia will become mandatory for the European Commission and Council. The statement requires EU institutions to develop a community strategy on Fibromyalgia, to recognize it as a disease and encourage Member States to improve access to diagnosis and treatment. At the same time, the declaration calls on the European Commission and Council to facilitate research activities on Fibromyalgia through the 7th EU Framework Program for research and through future research programs.

The European Criminal Code

Although the European Union responded to the widening international dimension of crime through bodies such as Europol and Eurojust, the establishment of common rules in matters such as corruption and money laundering and the development of procedures through which evidence and information can be obtained across borders, the European Union should be able to have a proactive involvement in all situations in which crimes are of great seriousness and the existing sanctions are of several types, giving offenders the possibility to exploit loopholes in the legislation, which would affect the efficiency of the communitary law.

 International Conference - April 12th

On the 12^th of April 2008 we organized a conference in Brasov on the need for structural reforms in education and research in Romania, as a medium to accelerate the integration process. The event was held with help of my colleague, Euro-deputy, Dragos David. The conference was attended by important names from the Romanian university circle, but also from abroad. The debate was structured in two discussion panels – “The importance of reform as a necessity for the integration” and “The necessity of infrastructure investments in education and research as a priority of the EU policy.”
